Our weekend promises to be diverse, commencing with a morning visit to Westonbirt, The National Arboretum. The tour will be led by the Arboretum's Director, Andrew Smith, and will start at the Welcome Building.  After an introduction the tour will go via the Wood Centre, Silk Wood focussing on arboretum activity and tree species, ending at Westonbirt Woodworks and the nearby Tree Management Centre with its two timber-built buildings.

 In the afternoon, we will travel to the other side of Tetbury and to Woodland Heritage member, Timberpride of Tetbury, makers of the highest-quality timber frames for use in the home, in an extension, or other building.  This visit will include a tour of the factory and an insight into an approach to oak that makes this business unique.

 The next, full-day will be spent at Northwick Estate near Moreton-in-Marsh, a longstanding member of Woodland Heritage, with the day to include a tour of the extensive managed woodlands, as well as an opportunity to see both the diverse collection of walnuts and the estate’s lovely gardens.

 Our final day will be spent at the beautiful and historic Cirencester Park, one of the greatest privately-owned parks of the 18th century and which claims to be the finest forest landscape in England; it remains amongst the most beautiful in the country today, having remained in the same family its one main advantage has been continuity. Our visit will take in managed woodlands not normally accessible to the public; our Field Weekends have always sought to give members access to private sites and is certainly a feature of the whole itinerary in this special, 25th Anniversary year.
