Woodland Heritage

Woodland Heritage is creating a thriving UK wood culture that benefits our environment, all people and our economy.

We do this by championing the good use of home-grown timber from sustainable, productive woodlands for the benefit of present and future generations. Through a combination of demonstration sites, research, education, membership and outreach, we build on the wisdom and skills of the past to weather the challenges of tomorrow.

Grow trees. Use wood. For our future.

What We Do

ACTION

Woodland Heritage is a membership organisation. The structural ‘beams’ of our activities help to support a thriving UK wood culture that benefits people, planet and economy.

RESEARCH & EDUCATION

From partnering on a new PhD project to preserve oak trees to boarding horizons on the ‘Woodland to Workshop’ course. We use the knowledge gained yesterday to weather the challenges of tomorrow.

WOOD CULTURE

Wood culture is inherently circular and represents the interconnectivity between people and wood. It celebrates our deep respect and ancient understanding of trees and timber.

Why Join Us?

You’ll be supporting a British charity devoted to creating a UK more self-sufficient in timber grown in healthy, well-managed woodlands which benefit people and wildlife.

If you appreciate materials and products sourced from well managed woodlands, and if you believe in supporting the next generation’s rise to meet the challenges they face, then we’re the charity to join.

Membership benefits include:

  • An annual Field Weekend visiting top-quality woods and allied facilities in a different part of the country every year

  • A copy of the universally enjoyed Woodland Heritage Journal (£5 to non-members)

  • A quarterly e-newsletter, bringing updates on developments across the timber supply chain

  • Access to specialist knowledge and opinion in the Members Area of our website.

  • Invitations to exclusive, members-only, events held across Britain

“By supporting Woodland Heritage, you will be joining a charity on a
mission to demonstrate the value of productive woodland to the
UK. Value for timber, combating climate change, flood resilience,
biosecurity, food, human health and wellbeing.”

Future Events

Woodland Heritage’s involvement in events other than the Field Weekend dates back many years. Take a look at our Events Calendar below.

The Charity is aiming to grow its events calendar, whether as organiser, sponsor of an appropriate element of a third party’s event, or by having or sharing a stand with a like-minded group at a suitable public activity. Key to getting involved in any event will be whether Woodland Heritage furthers its aims and thereby makes a contribution to some element of the timber supply chain.
